Portes Ouvertes         Open House in English
This francophone preschool program on Vancouver’s West Side, prématernelle v'la l'bon vent translates to here's the good wind preschool. This is one of Vancouvers' only francophone preschools (not French immersion), French is the only language spoken in the classroom. We appreciate that many parents’ mother tongue is English. In fact, most parents of our students are in exogamous couples. Exogamous is a word used here to describe couples comprised of least one individual whose mother-tongue is not French. Eventhough our preschool operates solely in French, our teacher and board of directors generate newsletters, announcements, and reports in both official languages whenever possible.

Our preschool was established with a mandate to prepare children for the elementary school: l'école Rose-des-vents, as such we follow the same entry requirements. Since the preschool has a waitlist, we can not make any exceptions to the entrance eligibility.

The preschool operates out of a classroom in the main building of l'école Rose-des-vents. The elementary school is part of CSF, Conseil scolaire francophone de la Colombie-Britannique, the Francophone Education Authority of British Columbia - British Columbia's Francophone school district. The school district is operated to satisfy Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedom - Article 23.

Article 23 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees Canadian citizens in BC have the right to educate their children in French:
  • if their first language learned and still understood is French or if they have or they received their primary education in French in Canada (excluding French immersion) or
  • if they have a child who was educated at primary or secondary education in French in Canada (excluding French immersion) or
  • if they have a child who has already begun his education in French in Canada. or
  • landed immigrants who meet one or more of the conditions mentioned above are also eligible.
Please see the application package for the official entrance eligibility requirements.
